Practicing Tips – Top 10

Top 10 Practice Tips

  1. Before you practice, drink a glass of water and run around the block.

  1. Set a regular time and use it – don’t “cram.”

  2. Associate your practice time with something:

ie. after breakfast, right before bed, at 3:00PM whatever works for you. If you need to, set an alarm or have someone remind you.

  3. Start with the hardest parts first.

  4. Do finger exercises every day.

  5. You break the music down into manageable parts, try breaking the practice down into manageable parts. Use a timer and decide how much time to spend on each part.

  6. A “practice” consists of no less than 3 repetitions. Less than 3 repetitions is called goofing off.

  7. NEVER intentionally practice wrong notes. Better slow than wrong. Slow can easily be fixed, wrong is much more difficult to fix.

  8. Have 5 songs that you can play WELL at all times. Review them weekly.

  9. Reward yourself for a job well done.
