Firework by Katy Perry

This month I worked with a lot of my teenage students to find “current” music that they wanted to learn to play.  It can be difficult to find pieces that excite them from a repertoire of classical music and traditional or academic pieces.  Sometimes teachers just need to expand their thinking to encompass new stuff.  The Easy Piano version of this song turned out to be a good introduction to playing popular music.  The left hand had a lot of octave work, and the right hand melody was not too difficult, but did incorporate several full chords, esp. when we got to the chorus.

Another No. 1 smash from Katy Perry! This song is infectious and features a powerful message. This easy piano arrangement features lyrics, chord symbols, and helpful fingering suggestions.

There are a lot of lousy tutorials for this on YouTube, and I couldn’t find a good one of this arrangement.  Just to hear what the song itself sounds like, try here.
